Rutabaga, Westport Macomber Turnip (organic)
100 days. Known for its smooth skin which is easily cleaned for market. Roots are large and white with either green or purple shoulders. Has the sweetness of a rutabaga, the crispness of a radish and the pure white flesh of a turnip. Try it mashed, roasted, sauteed, or even raw in a salad. Packet of 250 seeds.
Botanically a rutabaga, but called a turnip in Westport, MA. Popularized there by brothers Aden and Elihu Macomber, who brought seed home from the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition. The turnip variety flourished in Westport soil and people have been crazy for Macomber turnips ever since.
